My name is Mary Jo Downer. Don’t let my last name fool you, I am an uplifting person:) I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with 17+ years of experience. I am licensed in the states of Ohio and Virginia. I attended Saint Louis University where I received a Bachelors in Art in Sociology and Minors in Political Science and Psychology. I continued my education at Washington University in St. Louis, where I received my Masters in Social Work. I chose the field of social work due to my love of helping others. Since 2005, I have worked in various clinical settings providing services to children, teens, and adults. I have worked in community mental health, foster care and adoption, elderly services, school settings, and private practice. The thing I like about private practice is working with individuals who truly want help and are willing to put in the work to make changes in their lives. I feel that it is a privilege to hear a person’s story and provide them help in this journey we call life. When I am not providing clinical services, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 3 children, trying new restaurants, shopping, being outside, exercising, spending time with friends, and playing tennis.
